Becoming a disciple of Yeshua

To become a disciple of Yeshua (Jesus Christ) does not only require us to know his teachings and to live by them but also to know him personally. The relationship between a Rabbi and his disciples is a very intimate relationship. As we read through the Gospels, we will notice that very rarely is Jesus alone. His disciples were almost always by his side, watching, listening and asking questions.
If we want to also become his disciples, we must do the exact same things.
We must always be by his side - From the moment that we wake up to the moment that we close our eyes at night, we must be consciously aware of his presence. Inviting him into every area of our lives, seeking his counselling with every major decision that we make.
We must always be watching and observing everything and everyone around us - There is much work to be done but we will miss the opportunities if we are not aware of what is going on around us. The longer we walk with Jesus, the easier it should be for us to know what he would do in a given situation.
We must always be listening to his voice – it’s not enough to just pray to God, we must also listen. Jesus speaks to us in various ways. He speaks through his word (the bible), he speaks through his people (the church) and he speaks to our spirit. He also speaks in other ways, which means we must always be listening.
We must always be asking questions - What good is it to study under the Master if we do not ask him questions? May you walk humbly with your God!
